University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien

Summer School 2016

From July 11th to July 20th, the second AsTeRICS Academy Assistive Technology Summer School took place at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien in Vienna, Austria. It was a great success, we could welcome 29 students from 19 countries like Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mongolia, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Portugal or Czech Republic. In these days the students benefit from our international guest lecturers Gerhard Nussbaum (Game Accessibility), Nina Fröhlich (AAC and the iPad), Therese Willkomm (Construction of Low Cost Assistive Tools), Shadi Abou Zahra (Introduction to Web Accessibility), Doug Taylor (Shonaquip/Uhambo, South Africa) and Samantha Sibanda (Signs of Hope Trust Zimbabwe).

Besides the lecturers, leisure-related events (Vienna City Walk, closing event with concert) were organised and were well received by the participants. It was a very fruitful week and the students worked with motivation on their own practical projects. The students could benefit from the different background of each other and establish new contacts. On this site you can find the module description and the folder of the Vienna Summer School for Assistive Technology 2016.
